Seattle will maintain its reputation as a steppingstone to Broadway when "Shrek The Musical" debuts on Aug. 14.

Producers of the musical include Glendale-based DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. (NYSE: DWA) and Neal Street Productions Inc. The play is scheduled to run through Sept. 21 in Seattle and will open on Broadway later in the year.

Cast members of the musical, which is DreamWorks Animation's first theatrical foray, haven't been named. The play will be directed by Jason Moore, who staged the musical "Avenue Q" on Broadway.

The play will be based on William Steig's book "Shrek," which was turned into an animated movie by DreamWorks Animation.
