"Susanne Bier, one of Denmark`s most influential filmmakers, will direct 'Things We Lost in the Fire' and Steven Koren's cleverly conceived concept will be produced by DreamWorks.
The story centers on a woman whose husband suddenly dies; she invites her husband`s troubled best friend to live with her family, and as the friend turns his life around, he helps the grief-stricken family confront their loss.
Bier directed the Dogme film 'Open Hearts' in 2002. Made under a set of 10 purist filmmaking rules developed by Danish filmmakers Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg, 'Open Hearts' won five Danish film awards and screened at the San Sebastian, Sundance and Toronto film festivals.
Also, Variety reports on a pitch that was recently purchased by DreamWorks, a clever concept from screenwriter Steve Koren that can be summed up like so: ""Story centers on a glib man who comes to discover that he only has 1,000 words left to speak before he dies.""
The movie will be produced by Saturn Films' partners Nicolas Cage and Norm Golightly along with WAM Films' Alain Chabat and Stephanie Danan.
""Steve Koren has again crafted a hilarious yet meaningful tale,"" Golightly told the trade. Koren, who has previoulsy penned a hit Jim Carrey comedy ""Bruce Almighty"" will receive executive producer credit on Words.
