DreamWorks News: DreamWorks Closes Publicity Offices
Jun 30, 2006 - 03:11 AM
"With the Fourth of July holiday ahead, Friday will be the start of a long weekend for many industryites. But the day also will deliver the start of an even longer weekend for some DreamWorks employees.

June 30 will be the last day of work for 44 studio employees in the marketing and publicity departments. All those staffers -- 40 in Los Angeles and four in New York City -- received their pink slips in February and were notified then that their jobs would end as part of the studio's sale to Paramount Pictures.

While some DreamWorks execs were offered jobs on the Par lot, others stayed in the Valley as ""transition employees"" who continued working on specific projects or finished up with their duties. ""It's part of a staggered plan designed to ensure a smooth transition,"" said a Par rep.

The plan isn't complete just yet: There remain some ""transitioners"" in departments including human resources, information technology, facilities and finance/accounting. Those staffers are expected to depart when their final days come later this summer.
