"DreamWorks has picked up Blades of Glory, a comedy set in the world of men's figure skating, for a reported mid-six-figure advance.
Blades was written by brothers Jeff and Craig Cox, two first-time writers. The sale has elements of a classic Hollywood overnight success story since Jeff is a closed caption editor at E! Networks and Craig works at Starbucks. They collaborated on the story with actress Busy Philipps (White Chicks), a high school friend of theirs.
The story is about a pair of world-class men's figure skaters who are banned from the sport following their disgraceful brawl during the Winter Games in Salt Lake City. After three years of toiling in obscurity, they attempt to put aside their feud and exploit a loophole in their suspension, partnering to compete in the only category open to them -- pairs figure skating.
Ben Stiller and his partner at Red Hour Films, Stuart Cornfeld, are producing with John Jacobs of First Entertainment. Stiller is not attached to star."
