DreamWorks News: 'Lot' Casting Directors Talk
Jan 11, 2007 - 01:28 AM
Mark Burnett & Steven Spielberg's joined production of 'On the Lot' premieres this Spring but IGN sat down with casting directors Michelle McNulty and David Offenheiser to talk about the upcoming show.

IGN TV: How did you come to work on On the Lot?

Michelle McNulty: I've actually worked with Mark [Burnett] for quite awhile. I worked as an associate on season 2 and 3 of Survivor. Now I'm the casting director for Mark Burnett, so I do Rock Star, The Contender and now On the Lot. And David is one of my talent producers on the show.

IGN TV: This show is different, in that potential contestants are bringing this creation to you. How do you juggle casting for a TV show with looking at these short films at the same time? How does it work?

Michelle McNulty: The submission process; there's a website called thelot.com, that you can go to. We ask that people submit about a 30-45 second intro of themselves before the movie, and then they submit their movie. No longer than five minutes. If your movie is longer than five minutes, we just upload a trailer. And from there we review it, and are screening these submissions. We're getting everything from music videos, commercials, documentary filmmakers, and beautiful love stories, romantic comedies, horror films. And we're looking for all types of filmmakers like that.
