"Paramount Motion Picture Group said on Tuesday it will create specialty labels for films produced by its Viacom Inc. sister companies MTV and Nickelodeon in a move to broaden the studio's appeal with young adult and family audiences.
The move to put MTV and Nick Movie under the umbrella of Paramount, along with other well-known specialty filmmakers such as DreamWorks SKG, is part of an effort by Paramount chairman Brad Grey to revitalize the studio.
MTV and Nick have operated as independent producers on the Paramount studio lot in Los Angeles for 12 years. MTV Films has released over 20 films, including comedies ""Napoleon Dynamite"" and ""Election,"" and documentary ""Tupac: The Resurrection.""
Nick Movies is best known for live-action family and animated films such as ""The Spongebob Squarepants Movie"" and ""Nacho Libre.""
Paramount also named independent producer Scott Aversano president of MTV Films and Nick Movies, effective immediately.
Aversano formerly worked with producer Scott Rudin, overseeing production on such films as ""Failure to Launch"" and ""Team America: World Police.""
