DreamWorks News: Soundtrack Available: 'The Last Kiss'

"Playing a quirky doctor every week on ""Scrubs"" may have been Zach Braff's big break, but it's his fabulous taste in music that has sparked the attention of his countless fans.

It all started two years ago when the actor/writer/director made his directorial debut with Garden State, the comedy-drama indie film which was based on his own screenplay, that caught the interest of the music world. Braff put together such an impressive soundtrack for the film that he won a Grammy last year for ""Best Compilation Soundtrack for a Motion Picture.""

Now, he's hoping to do it again with the soundtrack for his latest film, The Last Kiss, which also stars ""The O.C."" cutie Rachel Bilson and radiant Australian actress Jacinda Barrett. To celebrate the release of Paramount Pictures' The Last Kiss soundtrack, the cast and artists on the disk partied at Hollywood hotspot Privilege and ComingSoon.net was at the ultra-exclusive event to party with them.

The very few people who were fortunate enough to attend the very chic and swanky soir?e were treated to performances by Joshua Radin, who performed ""Paperweight"" with Schuyler Fisk and Cary Brothers, who are all featured on the album.

Inside the white and modern interior of Privilege, Braff excitedly got up on stage to announce each artist and rocked out in the front row with friends while they played. ""I just hope people like the music and I think they will because it's almost like the sequel to the 'Garden State' soundtrack because it's the same tone,"" Braff told us.

The Last Kiss is a remake of Gabriele Muccino's acclaimed Italian film L'Ultimo Baccio and when Barrett saw the original version, she said she knew she had to be in it. ""This movie has had a special place in my heart since I first saw it. I fell in love with it and was so moved by all of the issues they were dealing with,"" Barrett said.

So what is the film about? Braff explained: ""Turning 30 and examining love in all different aspects of what it's like to be a 30-year-old and be in love and be settling down and being in love and afraid of settling down.""

Michael Weston, who plays Izzy, one of Braff's buddies in the film, is also a friend of his in real life along with Radin and Brothers. ""Me and Zach and Cary and Josh all went to Northwestern together. We sort of all became better friends when we were all living in New York. I know them from Chicago and then Cary and I were great friends and then Zach and I were roommates out here and then Josh is a great friend too. It's the best thing in the world to work with your friends.""

Braff must think so too, because he didn't hesitate introducing Radin and Brothers' work to others and including them on the album. ""It was basically music that we were all listening to when we were making the movie. I would make these mixed CD's for Tony [Goldwyn], the director. We are all listening to the same bands and acting and making the movie up in Montreal. When Tony started editing the film, I provided him with like five mixed CD's with all these different musicians and he started placing the songs in places where he liked them in the movie,"" Braff said.

People who have already heard the soundtrack couldn't be happier with the music. ""The Imogen Heap is just amazing,"" Bilson said. But, her favorite song on the album is Ray LaMontagne's ""Hold You in My Arms."" ""It's so beautiful. I remember the first time I ever heard it, Zach actually played it for me when we were filming and I fell in love with it.""

Radin and Fisk are thrilled to be part of the disk and were blown away the first time they saw the film with their music. ""She and I wrote this song 'Paperweight' and demoed it in her bedroom,"" Radin said. Zach liked it and here we are? It's amazing.""

While The Last Kiss doesn't open until September 15, you can already buy the soundtrack in stores now.
