While speaking to IndieLondon, actor Andy Serkis revealed that in fact Spielberg will be directing 1st film in the trilogy of 'TinTin'.

When asked if he will be starting production on 'TinTin', the actor said In fact tomorrow I’m flying out to start on Tintin. Steven Spielberg is directing the first one, and then Peter Jackson is doing the second. The bulk of the shoot starts in September but things got a little bit moved around after the writers’ strike.

This is entirely possible as Spielberg's Chicago 7 has been put on hold for further rewrites. If that's true Spielberg could start shooting late this summer or early fall for next summer release of 1st Tin Tin film.
