Kenneth Tsang disclosed when Steven Spielberg was attached to direct, he was given a more important role in the film. Now the General role has much less screen time, but Tsang said he doesn't mind. Tsang speaks good English and the filming of his parts was not very difficult for him.

One odd thing is that the article said most of Tsang's scenes are shared with Gong Li. Either it is an error (which is quite possible in a Chinese report) or the script is very different from the novel.
